We have been fortunate to receive continuing generous support from several local foundations.
The Alice Shaver Foundation provides grants for charitable, scientific and educational purposes. The grants generally benefit organizations that serve the elderly, the very young or the disadvantaged, and which involve a significant investment of time by their staff and volunteers. The Foundation has provided support for our Hall Street and Henderson Road projects as well as our current Main Street project.
The Berkshire Bank Foundations are guided by the values of the financial institutions that created them, a strong commitment to community, to leadership, and to preserving the character of our communities while fostering change that will keep communities strong and vital. The Foundations share a vision of healthy, vibrant, sustainable communities where educational and economic opportunity abound. The Foundation has provided support for our Hall Street, Henderson Road and Main Street projects in Williamstown and our most recent West Shaft Road project in North Adams.
The Fund for Williamstown, of the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation, was created by local residents in 2006 to support new ideas, approaches and collaborations that continue Williamstown's strong history of community improvement. Grants have supported a wide range of projects from youth programs to affordable housing to community cinema. The Fund for Williamstown provided support for our Henderson Road and Main Street projects in Williamstown. The Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation is the community foundation serving Berkshire County, MA Columbia County and northeast Duchess County, NY, and northwest Litchfield County, Ct. Among its many activities, the Foundation identifies and developments resources to address community issues, including the creation of a regional entity to increase housing options for working families.
The James H. and Irene M. Hunter Charitable Trust provided support for our most recent West Shaft Road project in North Adams.
The Legacy Banks Foundation was created to formalize the process of sponsoring the vital work of non-profit organizations throughout the community. Established in 2005, the Foundation is committed to continuing the philanthropic tradition of Legacy Banks and its associates who have generously contributed their time, talent and treasure for the betterment of the communities in which they have worked and lived for well over a century. Focusing in five major areas – affordable housing; economic development; education; health and human services; and arts & culture. The Foundation provided support for our Henderson Road and Main Street projects in Williamstown.
The Makepeace Foundation is administered by the First Congregational Church of Williamstown. Both the Foundation and the Church are long time supporters of Northern Berkshire Habitat, and Church members have been personally involved in our work. The Makepeace Bequest calls for support of specific projects that meet human needs and alleviate suffering. The Foundation has provided support for our last two homes in North Adams and our three completed homes in Williamstown.
The Milton and Dorothy Sarnoff Raymond Foundation, a private non-profit foundation, provided support for our Main Street project in Williamstown.
The MountainOne Community Allocations Program provided support for our most recent West Shaft Road Project in North Adams. MountainOne Bank embraces the Community Reinvestment Act that encourages banks to give back a portion of their profits to local organizations serving low and moderate-income individuals and families, going beyond regulatory requirements by also giving in support of healthcare, education, cultural activities, sports, and recreation.
The TD Charitable Foundation is the charitable giving arm of TD Bank N.A., which operates as TD Bank, America’s Most Convenient Bank®, and is one of the 15 largest commercial banking organizations in the United States. The Foundation's mission is to serve the individuals, families and businesses in all the communities where TD Bank operates. The efforts of the Foundation are coordinated locally through TD Bank's community relations departments and are focused on the areas of affordable housing, education and financial literacy, and the environment. The Foundation provided support in the past for our Hall Street and Main Street projects in Williamstown.
